In Manitoba, the foxes usually have five to eight pups, but litters of up to 25 have been recorded elsewhere, the largest of any wild mammal. However, the average life span is only four years. “Pups die from starvation and predation by wolves, bald eagles, ravens and polar bears,” says Johnson-Bice. “They have a live-fast, die-young lifestyle.”
